Body Contouring 101: Thigh Edition in Bucks County, PA

Thigh Lift in Bucks County, PA, and Hunterdon County, NJThe social media trend of thigh gaps has women flocking to the gym and plastic surgeons. The concept behind a thigh gap is that having a space between the thighs is an indication of being fit and toned. If you are considering CoolSculpting®, EMSCULPT® or thigh lift surgery to achieve a thigh gap, we want to provide you with some basic information about what to expect.

What is a Thigh Gap?

The phrase “thigh gap” somehow emerged on social media sites and is likely linked to images of high fashion models. A thigh gap is defined as a space between the thighs when a woman stands with her legs together. The idea is that the gap between the legs indicates that your legs are shapely and toned.

Should Every Woman Have a Thigh Gap?

Although the space between your thighs may reflect the amount of fat that you have to some degree, anatomy also comes into play. Women with wider hips naturally have a gap between their thighs when they stand with their legs together, regardless of how much fat or muscle they have. The angle of your leg bones is another factor. If your leg bones angle inward, you cannot achieve a thigh gap no matter how much you diet and exercise — it is anatomically impossible.

Do I Need Surgery to Improve My Thighs?

Due to the emphasis on thigh gaps, we work closely with each woman who comes to our practice with the goal of achieving a thigh gap. Our approach is to, instead, identify how reducing fat on her legs may improve the shape of her thighs and proportions with her body. In many cases, we recommend fat reduction with CoolSculpting® if the person has good muscle tone and EMSCULPT® if the thighs need some muscle mass to better burn excess fat.

What is a Thigh Lift?

Excess fat is not the only consideration for having attractive legs. The aging process may cause the skin to sag, and CoolSculpting® and EMSCULPT® are not designed to tighten skin. A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat. You should understand that the incision, and the resultant scar, is quite lengthy. You will also have downtime and a higher cost compared to non-surgical options.
