Thigh Lift in Bucks County, PA & Hunterdon County, NJ

Is a Thigh Lift Right for Me?

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brian Buinewicz is renowned for his expertise in performing thigh lift procedures in Doylestown, PA, and Flemington, NJ. A thigh lift can do wonders for sagging skin on the upper legs.

What is a Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift is a cosmetic surgery procedure in which extra skin and fat from the inner or outer thighs are removed. This surgery is often sought by patients who have recently lost a lot of weight either through dieting and exercising or through bariatric surgery. Sometimes, even with extensive dieting and a grueling exercise routine, it is impossible to lose all the extra tissue in the upper thighs. In this instance, liposuction can be a great option, and when combined with a thigh lift, it provides the desired toned legs most patients desire. It is always important to commit to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and normal weight if you want to keep the beautifully toned legs a thigh lift can provide.

What Are The Types Of Thigh Lift Surgery?

1

Medial Thigh Lift

A medial thigh lift focuses on improving the appearance of the inner thighs. This procedure is particularly beneficial for individuals with excess or sagging skin in the area between the groin and the knee. During a medial thigh lift, a surgeon makes an incision along the groin crease, extending downward towards the inner knee. Through this incision, excess skin and fat are removed from the inner thigh area. The remaining skin is then lifted and tightened to achieve a more toned and contoured appearance. Liposuction may be performed to further enhance the results.

2

Lateral Thigh Lift

A lateral thigh lift addresses the outer portion of the thighs, typically between the hip and the outer knee. This procedure is suitable for individuals with excess or sagging skin in the outer thigh area. During a lateral thigh lift, a surgeon makes an incision along the hip or bikini line, extending towards the outer thigh and sometimes circling around towards the buttocks. Through this incision, excess skin and fat are removed from the outer thigh region. The remaining skin is then lifted and tightened, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing thigh contour. Lateral thigh lifts are often combined with other body contouring procedures like a lower body lift to achieve comprehensive reshaping.

        Questions For Your Consult

How Long After a Thigh Lift Consultation Is the Surgery?

Generally, the time between your consultation and your thigh lift surgery will be somewhere between 1 and 6 weeks. The exact time between the two will depend on a few factors. One major factor is our practice availability, as Dr. Buinewicz needs to be available for your entire procedure. Additionally, some patients may need a few weeks to fully prepare for surgery, which may include discontinuing the use of certain vitamins, drugs and medications that can negatively interfere with treatment.

Can Thigh Lift Surgery Be Combined with Other Treatments?

In addition to liposuction, patients commonly combine their thigh lift surgery with other body contouring procedures. Patients often choose to partner their thigh lifts with procedures such as breast lifts, facelifts, or brachioplasty (arm lifts) that also reduce extra skin. These combinations help patients achieve more comprehensive benefits from surgery while consolidating the recovery periods into a single timeframe.

How Much Does a Thigh Lift Cost?

The average cost of thigh lift varies from one community to the other with some small variations. Factors, such as the facility where the surgery will be performed, type of anesthesia and other issues, come to bear on the final cost of the thigh lift surgery. Hunterdon County and Bucks County thigh lifts vary in price range according to these factors. Buinewicz Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa makes cosmetic surgery procedures available and affordable for everyone. Our office provides a wide array of payment options, including easy financing. We also accept cash, major credit cards and personal checks for thigh lifts and other procedures.

What are the Risks of Thigh Lift surgery?

The most common risks associated with thigh lift surgery include infection, scarring, skin numbness or changes in sensation, and hematomas/seromas. Together, however, these complications occur in less than 1% of thigh lift procedures. Furthermore, Dr. Buinewicz’s focus and expertise on thigh lift techniques help to minimize the risks associated with thigh lift surgery. As with any major surgery, there will always be risks involved - but under the care of a qualified and experienced surgeon, any significant complications become extremely unlikely.

What is Thigh Lift Surgery Like?

What Happens During Thigh Lift Surgery?

A thigh lift takes place under general anesthesia. The patient sleeps throughout the procedure, has no recollection of the procedure and has no discomfort whatsoever throughout the procedure. We perform our thigh lift procedures in our state-accredited operating room under the anesthesia care of board-certified anesthesiologists. Thigh lifts generally take 2 to 4 hours and are usually an outpatient procedure, although the exact duration of the surgery will depend on the surgical techniques used. Dr. Buinewicz offers two types of thigh lifts – medial and lateral.

How Long is Thigh Lift Recovery?

The thigh lift recovery process is complex, as it requires an initial period of downtime, followed by some restrictions and mild symptoms, after which point patients can finally resume their normal lifestyles. For most patients, the traditional thigh lift recovery timeline looks like this:

        Week 1

The first few days after thigh lift surgery are typically the most uncomfortable. Swelling and bruising are to be expected. Keeping the legs elevated and using cold compresses can help reduce swelling, while pain medication can help manage any discomfort. You should expect to take this time off of work and other activities to rest as much as possible. We advise wearing a compression sleeve on the thighs for the initial recovery period to assist with healing.

        Weeks 2-3

Swelling and bruising will start to gradually subside during this time. Walking and light movements are encouraged to promote blood circulation and reduce the risk of blood clots as you start to recover from surgery. However, you should continue to avoid strenuous activities and exercise to prevent complications and promote proper healing.

        Weeks 4-6

By this time, most patients can expect a significant reduction in swelling and bruising. You may notice improved leg contour and a better overall appearance. Most patients are able to discontinue the use of compression garments at this time. Dr. Buinewicz may allow you to gradually increase your activities, but it’s important to avoid any activities that strain the leg muscles or put excessive stress on the incision sites.

        Months 2-3

Swelling should continue to improve as the majority of side effects subside, and the incisions will gradually fade. By this stage, most individuals should be able to resume work and other regular activities, including exercise and more demanding physical tasks, following Dr. Buinewicz’s guidance.

        Months 4-6

By this stage, most patients have seen substantial improvement in their leg appearance and have fully resumed their regular activities and exercise routines, with the approval of Dr. Buinewicz.

        Post Surgery Frequently Asked Questions

When Will I Feel Back to Normal After a Thigh Lift?

The time it takes to feel "back to normal" after a thigh lift can vary from person to person. It typically takes several weeks to a few months for most individuals to start feeling more like themselves again. However, it's important to keep in mind that the recovery timeline can be influenced by factors such as the extent of the surgery, individual healing ability, and adherence to post-operative care instructions.

It is common to experience discomfort, swelling, and limited mobility during the initial recovery phase. These symptoms will gradually improve over the first month, when you’ll begin to notice an improvement in energy levels and overall well-being. You may be able to resume light activities and work during this time. Most significant improvements will take place 1-3 months after treatment. Patients can expect to feel fully back to normal within 3-4 months of surgery.

        Is Thigh Lift Recovery Painful?

While the thigh lift procedure is not painful at all, patients should expect some pain during the thigh lift recovery. It is during this period where the body is healing and feels the trauma of the surgical process. Fortunately, this pain should only last a few days, and can be managed with pain medications and other post-operative techniques.

What Results Can I Expect From a Thigh Lift?

Dr. Buinewicz will illustrate your potential results during your thigh lift consultation. After discussing your treatment goals and identifying the appropriate surgical techniques, you and Dr. Buinewicz can explore potential outcomes through before and after photos of previous patients. However, it’s important to keep in mind that it can take 3-4 months for your final results to become visible. This is due to the extensive recovery process that follows a thigh lift, which can include residual swelling for a few months.
