What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is a treatment focused on enhancing either the interior or the exterior of the female genitalia. Vaginal rejuvenation can either be in the form of a vaginoplasty, or tightening of the vagina, which is an internal surgery that tightens the walls of your vagina to increase your pleasure during sexual intercourse, or a labiaplasty, which is a reshaping of the labia, or the exterior of the female genitalia. A labiaplasty reduces the size or changes the shape of the labia minora, typically making them smaller or correcting any asymmetry between them. Oftentimes, childbirth and aging can cause an enlargement or a misshaping of the labia, although some women are just naturally genetically programmed to have enlarged labia. Women with enlarged labia can sometimes experience discomfort when exercising, wearing tight-fitting clothing, or during sexual intercourse. Vaginal rejuvenation is one of the fastest growing aesthetic procedures in overall popularity, with more than 5,000 procedures performed in the U.S. in 2013, a 44 percent increase from 2012, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). More and more women are taking back control of their sensuality with the benefits of vaginal rejuvenation therapy, and maybe now is the right time for you to too!

What are the Benefits of Vaginal Rejuvenation?

A range of symptoms and personal preferences can impact an individual's choices when it comes to considering the benefits of vaginal rejuvenation. Vaginal rejuvenation can benefit you if your vaginal structures sag and or have become more lax due to the aging process, weight loss or pregnancies, or if you have discomfort from scarring as a result of previous genital surgeries. Vaginal rejuvenation can help correct stress urinary incontinence. Some patients just have the simple desire for a sleeker, more refined contour to their labia and vulva. As a result, there are a range of options that you can choose from, such as a reduction of the labia minora (inner lips of the vagina), a reduction or augmentation of the labia majora (outer lips), a Mons pubis reduction, and also clitoral hood remodeling. A labiaplasty can remove redundant tissue along the ruffled edge, and also reduce the size and protrusion of the labia minora, while a labia majora reduction removes excess skin and tissue from the outer lips of the vulva, hiding the incisions on the inner edge of the labia.

Who is a Candidate for Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation usually combines vaginoplasty, the “tightening” of the vagina and/or labiaplasty or vulvaplasty, the reshaping of the vulva or labia, based on your unique needs. Vaginal rejuvenation has become an increasingly popular option for women of all ages. For those individuals who desire recontouring after childbirth, significant weight loss, aging or injury to the genital structures, vaginal rejuvenation treatments offer the benefits of increased self-confidence and comfort. If the contours of your vaginal structures have altered and stretched over time, or if you experience soreness or pain with sexual activity, bicycle riding or horseback riding, or if the effects of multiple vaginal deliveries have led to reduced sensation during intercourse, then you may be an excellent candidate for vaginal rejuvenation treatments.

What is the Procedure for Vaginal Rejuvenation?

The most common vaginal procedure today at Buinewicz Plastic Surgery is laser vaginal rejuvenation. Depending on the procedure chosen, a pudendal block is given to provide 18 to 24 hours of postoperative pain control. After the anesthesia is administered, a laser is then used that is very much like a scalpel but allows and empowers a far more precise aesthetic result (with the benefit of less bleeding as well). Redundant tissue is removed, and your incisions will be sutured inside the vagina. For a labiaplasty, the desired labial/vulvar contours are outlined with a surgical marker and sutures are then placed. A laser is used to remove tissue beyond the desired contour, then skin staples are placed to align the edges of the labia, absorbable sutures are used, and the staples are then removed.

What is ThermiVa®?

ThermiVa® is a cutting-edge non-surgical and non-invasive treatment for women who are suffering from the effects of urinary incontinence. Not only is ThermiVa® quick and painless, but it efficiently tightens the tissue of the vaginal walls to reduce incontinence and increase sexual pleasure without any downtime or recovery period. The secret behind ThermiVa® is its use of radiofrequency technology that gently heats up the targeted tissues using a slim handpiece, tightening the tissues and decreasing your unwanted symptoms.
