Dermapen® Micro-needling in Bucks County, PA, and Hunterdon County, NJ

What is Dermapen® Microneedling?

Buinewicz Plastic Surgery is pleased to offer treatment with the Dermapen®, which is an automated microneedling therapy system that vertically pierces the skin to naturally stimulate collagen induction therapy (CIT), and percutaneous collagen induction (PCI). This is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure utilizing a cutting-edge device that contains ultra-fine needles. These needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. Through the process of neovascularization and neocollagenesis, improvements in skin texture and firmness result, as well as a reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks. Microneedling is a safe, chemical-free treatment method that triggers new collagen production, that can be performed on all skin colors and types, and it is sometimes the preferred treatment over laser as there is zero risk of burning.

Benefits of Dermapen® Microneedling?

Dermapen® microneedling is a simple and fast method for safely treating wrinkles and scars, and because the epidermis remains intact, the procedure can be repeated safely and is also suited for regions where laser treatments and deep peels are not typically performed. At Buinewicz Plastic Surgery, Dermapen® microneedling therapy is now becoming widely used as a treatment for photoaged skin to improve the skin’s appearance and quality, and to improve or even prevent scarring.

Who is a Candidate for Dermapen® Microneedling

Candidates for Dermapen® microneedling include anyone suffering from mild to moderate acne scarring, surgical scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, pore size, skin texture issues or keloid scarring. Microneedling reduces pore size, improves the quality and texture of the skin, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and improves the look of disfiguring scars from surgery, accidents or acne. Because it’s minimally invasive, microneedling doesn’t cause significant wounding of the skin, so virtually anybody can safely undergo therapy with minimal risk of long-term adverse effects. Age and skin color are not a factor when it comes to use. Microneedling is safe for all patients. Even areas of the body where skin is typically thin can undergo treatment with Dermapen®. Some patients, however, will benefit more than others from microneedling therapy. Microneedling therapy is also inexpensive, especially when compared to other therapies, which are usually energy-based and much more complicated.

The Procedure for Dermapen® Microneedling

To begin your treatment, a topical anesthetic cream is used by Dr. Buinewicz to keep you completely comfortable during your procedure. A small handheld pen-like device with a sterile, disposable tip equipped with 12 tiny needles is then used to pierce the skin. Our needling pen’s multi-speed and adjustable needle depth allow needles to pierce the skin’s layer at 90 degrees and increase the absorption of products. The device glides gently along the skin, penetrating the layers of the skin closest to the surface, at a depth of up to 2mm to create numerous tiny needle wounds. The therapy encourages your body to respond through the creation of new collagen and elastin fibers. As the skin responds, it plumps and thickens, reducing the appearance of scars, wrinkles, and fine lines. Multiple treatments may be necessary, with the number of needling sessions depending on your individual skin condition. Three or four treatments may be recommended for mild to moderate acne scarring, whereas deeper scars and stretch marks may require up to five treatments, with an interval of four to six weeks between treatments. After your treatment, soothing Vitamin C serum or hyaluronic acid is used to hydrate, heal and protect your skin.
