What is Sclerotherapy?
Used primarily in the treatment of spider veins and small varicose veins, sclerotherapy involves injecting a “sclerosing” agent into the vein using a very fine needle. This chemical solution irritates the vein tissue, causing the lining of the vein to swell, harden and eventually seal off. Sclerotherapy can reduce or eliminate both the appearance and any discomfort caused by spider veins or varicose veins. What is the Procedure for Sclerotherapy?
Most sclerotherapy sessions take less than an hour to perform and allow you to return to your daily routine afterward. After utilizing an ultrasound machine or a vein illumination light to precisely guide each sclerosant injection into your varicose or spider vein, we then use a very small needle to inject the sclerosant into the veins. After the injections are finished, a special cream is massaged into the treated area to increase the coverage of the sclerosant, improving its overall effectiveness and soothing your legs in the process. You may experience some very mild discomfort during your procedure, but this should subside once your procedure is completed. You may resume normal activity with some exceptions immediately following your treatment. You may be asked to wear compression garments for up to one week after your procedure, and you may have some mild redness or bruising after the procedure. We recommend no heavy lifting of over 30 pounds and no heavy physical aerobic activities for 48 hours afterward, but lots of walking is recommended. Most patients return to their normal activities after 48 hours. It can take up to six weeks for the spider vein issues to resolve but generally, you can expect a significant improvement of your spider and varicose vein treatment at Buinewicz Plastic Surgery.

The total cost of your sclerotherapy treatment will vary based upon your specific treatment requirements.
