What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic treatment in which the top layers of skin are removed with a special device. The result is a glowing, smoother complexion. Women turn to microdermabrasion to diminish fine lines and erase scars.

The process involves combining a mixture of pure oxygen at a high pressure with hyaluronic acid, collagen or vitamin A, directly to the skin. This combination plumps and smooths the face minimizes pores and diminishes red splotches.

How Involved is Microdermabrasion?
The process of microdermabrasion uses a special handheld device with tiny aluminum oxide crystals to exfoliate the areas of the skin. As the device goes over the targeted areas, the device features a mild suction piece to pull the outer layers away.
New skin cells come to the surface. The new skin has more collagen and elastin that gives a more youthful appearance. Most of the time, individuals require several treatments with each one lasting no more than an hour.
Treatments are scheduled about three weeks apart to give the new skin time to get stronger.
The SilkPeel® treatment removes the outer layers of skin through exfoliation using serums formulated for different skin conditions. Each SilkPeel® procedure takes about 30 minutes and is virtually painless.
How Long is the Recovery from Microdermabrasion?
Recovery from microdermabrasion depends primarily on the extent of the treatment. Immediately following each treatment, the skin feels drier and tighter, especially when getting deeper exfoliation. It is best to let the skin rest and heal without any makeup covering it for the first two or three days following each treatment. It is also recommended to avoid direct sunlight during the first week following each treatment.
When receiving SilkPeel® treatments, there is no recovery or downtime; however, it is important to avoid sunlight and follow an at-home skin care regimen to maintain the results.
