Summer Skin Starts Here and Now

We know what you’re thinking: It’s still winter – why do I have to start thinking about summer skincare now? In reality, the health of our skin and body is a process. It takes time and dedication to be able to get your skin healthy and maintain that health. When it comes to having supple, sun-kissed summer skin, you really can never start too early in preparing. Let’s go over some changes you can make now to get yourself summer-ready.

Cold Showers Have Their Benefits

During winter, nothing sounds more soothing and invigorating that a steamy shower. The feeling of hot water on the skin compared to the snowy mess outside is something we all look forward to at the end of the day. We’re sorry to tell you, but hot water can wreak havoc on your skin. Water that’s too hot can have a lasting effect of actually dehydrating and damaging the skin, leading to a dull and tired appearance. Try sticking to slightly warm water to shower and wash your face. We promise your skin will thank you and you’ll be reaping the benefits before you know it.

Use the Right Skincare

Our patients often underestimate the abilities of medical-grade skincare products. While yes, they may be a little pricier than the average drugstore or over-the-counter product you can find anywhere, but medical-grade skincare products provide results unlike any you’ve ever seen before. To help prep your skin for the summer months, we recommend using products like the SkinCeuticals® Body Tightening Concentrate and the HydroPeptide® power serum. These products work to complement your body’s natural chemistry to create healthy, beautiful skin.

SPF is Your Best Friend

We can’t stress the importance of SPF enough. Even during winter, when the skies are cloudy and overcast, the sun can still do damage to the skin. The sun’s harmful UVA rays can penetrate through heavy clouds, and even glass, to produce sun damage in the form of fine lines, wrinkles, sunspots and possibly skin cancer. We recommend applying a moisturizer with at least SPF 30 to the face and any exposed skin to avoid the damage that comes with sun exposure. One of our favorites is the 188 Mega Shade, which is formulated with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to provide sun protection.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Your skin thrives off of hydration. Proper hydration can lead to the skin looking plump, healthy and radiant. You can make sure your skin is hydrated in many ways. One of the simplest ways is to make sure you’re drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day. In addition to drinking plenty of water, consider using moisturizers every morning and night. We recommend moisturizers rich in hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar in the body that binds to water to produce healthier skin. One of our favorites our 244 hydrating gel complex. Finally, for a hydrating boost at any time of day, consider using a hydrating mist. This is any type of product that can be misted right onto the face to quench your thirsty skin.
