Mommy Makeover in Bucks County, PA & Hunterdon County, NJ

Is a Mommy Makeover Right for Me?

Becoming a mother is a joyous and highly rewarding experience that most women look forward to, but pregnancy and breastfeeding can change a woman's body in ways she never anticipated. No amount of exercise can repair pregnancy-related changes, such as stretch marks and loose skin, loss of breast volume or sagging breast which can leave women feeling self-conscious and uncomfortable about their body's appearance. At Buinewicz Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brian R. Buinewicz offers the mommy makeover to help mothers feel more confident and comfortable in their bodies. We welcome women from Hunterdon County, NJ, Bucks County, PA, and the surrounding areas to experience the benefits of a mommy makeover at our locations in Doylestown, PA, and Flemington, NJ.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

Mommy makeover surgery is a combination of cosmetic procedures that are performed simultaneously to restore a woman's body to its pre-pregnancy appearance. Sagging breasts, lax abdominal muscles and skin, and stretch marks, are some of the physical changes caused by pregnancy that a mommy makeover can correct. During a mommy makeover procedure, Dr. Buinewicz uses a unique combination of procedures to firm and lift sagging breasts and volume to breasts when necessary, remove stretch marks, and tighten and tone the midsection. The mommy makeover is not a one-size-fits-all procedure, and Dr. Buinewicz customizes his approach to this surgery according to each woman's physical anatomy and desired outcome.

What’s Included in a Mommy Makeover?

The mommy makeover may include a variety of cosmetic treatments, as each procedure is customized to the patient’s unique treatment goals. Some of the most common treatments included with a mommy makeover are:

1

Breast Surgeries

  • Breast lift
  • Breast augmentation
  • Breast reduction
  • Breast lift and augmentation

Pregnancy and breastfeeding often change the size and shape of the breasts, but a combination of a breast lift and breast augmentation can restore volume, height, and firmness to the breasts. Women who suffer from other breast-related imperfections, such as asymmetry, can combine additional procedures to correct these imperfections at the same time as their breast lift and/or augmentation.

2

Tummy Tucks

  • Full tummy tuck
  • Mini tummy tuck

Pregnancy and childbirth can significantly alter the appearance of a woman's midsection, possibly leaving sagging skin, stretch marks, unwanted fat collections and scars from a C-section. These changes cannot be reversed through diet and exercise alone. Fortunately, a tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck can minimize the appearance of these imperfections. These procedures are designed to remove excess fat and skin from the midsection and tighten the abdominal muscles and remaining abdominal skin.

3

CoolSculpting®, EMSCULPT NEO or Liposuction

CoolSculpting®, EMSCULPT NEO and liposuction offer less-invasive alternatives to the tummy tuck procedures. Liposuction uses a small tube to suction fat out of the body, requiring only small incisions in the desired treatment area. It is easily combined with body lift surgeries. CoolSculpting® is a less invasive, non-surgical alternative to liposuction. It uses state-of-the-art cryolipolysis technology to gently freeze and eliminate targeted fat cells from problem areas across the body. EMSCULPT NEO reduces fat and builds muscles non-invasively.

What Can a Mommy Makeover Accomplish?

✓ The mommy makeover can help women correct any number of post-pregnancy changes, including loss of volume and firmness in the breasts, excess fatty deposits in the waist, hips, and thighs, and sagging abdominal and thigh skin. Additional benefits include:

  • Restoring height, volume, and shape to sagging breasts that have become deflated due to pregnancy and lactation.
  • Removing loose abdominal skin and stretch marks.
  • Toning and tightening the abdominal region following pregnancy and childbirth.
  • Slimming and contouring the waistline.
  • Removing stubborn, sagging fat deposits from desired areas of the body.

Questions For Your Consult

How Long After a Mommy Makeover Consultation Is the Surgery?

Generally, the time between your consultation and your mommy makeover surgery will be somewhere between 1 and 6 weeks. The exact time between the two will depend on a few factors. One major factor is our practice availability, as Dr. Buinewicz performs your entire procedure. Additionally, some patients may need a few weeks to fully prepare for surgery, which may include discontinuing the use of certain vitamins, drugs and medications that can negatively interfere with treatment.

How Much Does a Mommy Makeover Cost?

The average cost of mommy makeover surgery varies from one community to the other with some small variations. Factors such as the facility where the mommy makeover will be performed, the types of surgeries that will be performed, types of anesthesia to be used, and other issues come to bear on the final cost of the mommy makeover surgery. Hunterdon County and Bucks County mommy makeovers vary in price range according to these factors. Buinewicz Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa makes mommy makeover surgery procedures available and affordable for everyone. Our office provides a wide array of payment options, including easy financing. We also accept cash, major credit cards and personal checks for mommy makeovers and other procedures.

What is Mommy Makeover Surgery Like?

What Happens During Mommy Makeover Surgery?

The mommy makeover features a combination of two or more cosmetic procedures that Dr. Buinewicz performs during one surgical appointment. The combination of procedures are personalized to the aesthetic concerns and desired outcome of each patient, but the Mommy Makeover usually includes a combination of breast augmentation and/or breast lift surgery, a tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck. While the mommy makeover procedures are most often performed during the same surgical operation, some women choose to split the mommy makeover into multiple surgical appointments and add on other cosmetic and body contouring treatments, such as liposuction, breast reduction, labiaplasty, a thigh lift, an arm lift, and/or a butt lift. Dr. Buinewicz will go over your post-pregnancy cosmetic concerns during a private consultation to determine the ideal combination of procedures to deliver your desired outcome.

What is Mommy Makeover Recovery Like?

How Long is Mommy Makeover Recovery?

The recovery time for a mommy makeover can take 2-3 months or longer depending on the specific procedures involved. Here is a general timeline:

Weeks 1-2
During the initial recovery period, you’ll need to abstain from almost all activities with the exception of short walks around the house to use the bathroom. You should not lift anything, and as such, you may want to have someone help you around the house for a few days. Pain and swelling will be most severe in this period, but can both be managed with medication, ice and compression. You should sleep on your back at a slight incline to facilitate the healing process.

Weeks 3-4
During the next stage of recovery, you can begin taking short walks each day, which will actually benefit your recovery process. Still, you should avoid lifting heavy objects (anything over 5 pounds). Additionally, you should continue resting as much as possible while abstaining from work, chores, driving and most other normal activities.

Month 2
After the first month, patients are able to return to work as long as they don’t work in a strenuous position. You should feel better about getting out of bed and walking around each day, but you’ll still need to avoid heavy lifting and other physical activities for a few more weeks.

Month 3
After the second month of recovery, you can start resuming daily activities like driving short distances, working a few hours, and doing light chores. You may also gradually resume light exercise like walking. Still, you should avoid high impact activities, weightlifting, and anything that might strain the abdominal muscles.

Months 4-6 and Beyond
During this stage of recovery, most if not all of the swelling will subside and you’ll begin noticing your full results. You can resume cardio and most other normal activities, with the exception of strenuous abdominal exercises. A full recovery may take up to 6 months, although most patients feel “back to normal” well before then.

Post Surgery Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Best Age for a Mommy Makeover?

The best age for a mommy makeover will vary by patient, and will be whenever you feel that you can benefit most from the included procedures. That said, most patients find this age to be somewhere between 35 and 50 years old. Women in their mid-30s to late-40s tend to have good skin elasticity that can still retract well after procedures like breast lifts and tummy tucks. Women in this age range are highly motivated to get their pre-baby bodies back and feel youthful again. Furthermore, they understand the realistic changes their bodies have gone through after having children.

How Much Do You Have to Weigh to Get a Mommy Makeover?

There is no specific weight requirement for a mommy makeover. However, it is recommended to be within 10-15 pounds of your ideal weight before surgery for the best results. Your BMI should ideally be 30 or less, as a BMI over 35 increases risks like infection and poor healing. The focus should be on reaching a stable, healthy body fat percentage rather than a particular number on the scale. While extra weight does not necessarily preclude you from a mommy makeover, your surgeon will assess your individual health and body to determine if you are a good candidate.

What Results Can I Expect From a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is designed to restore your pre-pregnancy body contours. The full results will become noticeable gradually over 2-3 months, sometimes longer, as swelling resolves and incision lines fade. A mommy makeover is not considered permanent, as the body will continue to change and age over time.
