Questions For Your Consult

How Long After a Labiaplasty Consultation Is the Surgery?

Generally, the time between your consultation and your labiaplasty surgery will be somewhere between 1 and 6 weeks. The exact time between the two will depend on a few factors. One major factor is our practice availability, as Dr. Buinewicz performs your entire procedure. Additionally, some patients may need a few weeks to fully prepare for surgery, which may include discontinuing the use of certain vitamins, drugs and medications that can negatively interfere with treatment.

How Much Does Labiaplasty Surgery Cost?

The average cost of labiaplasty surgery varies from one community to the other with some small variations. Factors, such as the facility where the surgery will be performed, type of anesthesia and other issues, come to bear on the final cost of the surgery. Hunterdon County and Bucks County labiaplasty surgery varies in price range according to these factors. Buinewicz Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa makes labiaplasty procedures available and affordable for everyone. Our office provides a wide array of payment options, including easy financing. We also accept cash, major credit cards and personal checks for this and other procedures.

What Happens During Labiaplasty Surgery?

At Buinewicz Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa, labiaplasty is usually done on an outpatient basis. Some patients have general anesthesia, while others only need local anesthesia. Prior to the procedure, Dr. Buinewicz will meet with the patient to make sure they have realistic expectations for the results of their labiaplasty. During the procedure, the doctor reduces extra tissue and shapes the labia minora into natural contours. Dr. Buinewicz will finish the surgery by placing dissolvable sutures to maintain the reshaped labia and to promote healthy healing. From start to finish, the entire procedure seldom takes more than two hours.

What is Labiaplasty Recovery Like?

How Long is Labiaplasty Surgery Recovery?

Labiaplasty surgery has a relatively quick recovery time. Patients can expect a full recovery within 4-6 weeks after their procedure. For most patients, the labiaplasty recovery timeline looks like this:

Week 1
In the first week after surgery, patients will need to rest and limit activity as much as possible. Patients can expect swelling, bruising, discomfort and vaginal drainage that can be managed with ice, medications and sitz baths. Avoid strenuous activity and focus on healing.

Week 2-4
Swelling and bruising should start subsiding. Discomfort and tenderness also improve. Patients may return to work at this time if it is not physically demanding. Refrain from exercise, sexual activity, tampon use and heavy lifting during these weeks.

Weeks 4-6
At this point swelling has gone down significantly and incision lines continue to heal. Most patients feel comfortable returning to regular daily routines like driving, working, light exercise and non-strenuous activity.

Week 6 and Beyond
By this time patients should be through the recovery process with the results of the labiaplasty procedure fully visible. There may still be some mild swelling but discomfort and tenderness should be minimal. Patients can resume all normal activities including exercise and sexual intimacy.

Post Surgery Frequently Asked Questions

Can Labiaplasty Be Performed Without Surgery?

Labiaplasty can only be performed with surgery, as there are no non-surgical techniques available that can adjust the size of the labia. However, for patients who are seeking vaginal rejuvenation without surgery, ThermiVa™ may be a good alternative. ThermiVa™ is a radiofrequency-powered treatment that gently warms the vaginal tissue to stimulate collagen production and tissue tightening. It is comfortable and requires no anesthesia and no downtime. We typically recommend a series of 3 treatments, after which patients can expect improvements in:

  • Vaginal laxity
  • Orgasm problems
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Sexual function
  • Leaky bladder
  • Urinary incontinence

Is Labiaplasty Surgery Permanent?

The results of labiaplasty surgery are intended to be permanent. During labiaplasty, excess tissue is surgically removed from the labia minora and/or majora and the remaining tissue is reshaped and reconstructed. This tissue removal is permanent. However, patients can still experience changes in the vaginal tissue over time due to aging, childbirth, weight fluctuations and more. While some slight relaxation of tissues may occur with major life changes, most patients find their improved labial appearance and function are long-lasting.
