Breast Lift (Mastopexy) in Bucks County, PA & Hunterdon County, NJ

Is a Breast Lift Right for Me?

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brian Buinewicz is renowned for his expertise in performing breast lift procedures in Doylestown, PA, and Flemington, NJ. Mastopexy or breast lift is ideal for restoring a proportional, youthful appearance to the breasts.

What is a Breast Lift?

During the aging process, the skin’s natural elasticity decreases, and gravity begins to alter the shape and appearance of women’s breasts. When combined with pregnancy or nursing, these factors often diminish the youthful shape and firmness of the breast. A breast lift, also called a mastopexy, can surgically raise and reshape breasts while reducing the size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple) to restore a youthful appearance. When breast implants are used in conjunction with a breast lift, the procedure can increase both breast firmness and size. Also a breast lift can lift and reshape the breast when someone is having their implants and capsule removed.

      Questions For Your Consult

How Long After a Breast Lift Consultation Is the Surgery?

Generally, the time between your consultation and your breast lift surgery will be somewhere between 1 and 6 weeks. The exact time between the two will depend on a few factors. One major factor is our practice availability, as Dr. Buinewicz alone performs the entrire operation. Additionally, some patients may need a few weeks to fully prepare for surgery, which may include discontinuing the use of certain vitamins, drugs and medications that can negatively interfere with treatment.

How Much Does a Breast Lift Cost?

The average cost of breast lift varies from one community to the other with some small variations. Factors, such as the facility where the surgery will be performed, type of anesthesia and other issues, come to bear on the final cost of the breast lift surgery. Hunterdon County and Bucks County mastopexy vary in price range according to these factors. Buinewicz Cosmetic Surgery & MedSpa makes cosmetic surgery procedures available and affordable for everyone. Our office provides a wide array of payment options, including easy financing. We also accept cash, major credit cards and personal checks for breast lifts and other procedures.

What is Breast Lift Surgery Like?

What Happens During Breast Lift Surgery?

Most breast lifts are carried out under general anesthesia, which means you will be completely asleep throughout your procedure. Pain blocks are performed by an anesthesiologist to minimize postoperative discomfort.  After the anesthesia has been administered, Dr. Buinewicz will make two to three cuts along the natural contours of each breast. The majority of breast lifts require incisions just below the areolas and nipples. Once the incisions are made, the areolas and nipples are moved to new positions and the remaining soft tissue and breast tissue is adjusted back to its normal position. By moving the soft tissue, the patient's breasts appear to be perkier and positioned higher on the chest. At the end of the procedure, Dr. Buinewicz stitches the incisions shut and applies a compression garment or wrap.

Can Breast Lift Surgery Be Combined with Other Treatments?

Yes, patients commonly combine their breast lift surgery with other cosmetic surgeries, including breast surgeries. The most common combination is a breast lift with breast implants or removing breast implants and capsules if a patient no longer wants implants, is having complications such as malposition or contracture, or is suffering systemic symptoms from their implants. Tummy tucks are also a popular choice among patients. These combinations help patients achieve more comprehensive benefits from surgery while consolidating the recovery periods into a single timeframe.

What is Breast Lift Recovery Like?

How Long is Breast Lift Recovery?

The breast lift or mastopexy recovery process is straight forward and requires an initial period of downtime, followed by some restrictions after which point patients can finally resume their normal lifestyles. For most patients, the traditional breast lift recovery timeline looks like this:

      First Few Days

While every patient is slightly different, most have their dressings removed within three days of their surgery. If surgical drains were placed within the incisions, then those tubes will be removed after four to five days.

      Week 1

Patients can expect discomfort, swelling, and bruising during the first week following breast lift surgery. Pain medication can help manage any discomfort. Resting and avoiding strenuous activities is crucial during the initial week of recovery to promote proper healing, so patients should plan to take this time off from work and other activities. Patients will need to wear a compression garment to aid with healing and swelling. Additionally, patients will have to sleep on their back for the first few weeks of recovery.

      Weeks 2-3

Swelling and bruising should gradually decrease during this period.  Light movements and walking are typically encouraged to aid in blood circulation and prevent complications, but you should continue to avoid strenuous activities, heavy lifting, and upper body exercises. Wearing a supportive bra or similar garments will aid in the healing process and help maintain the newly lifted breast shape.

      Weeks 4-6

By this time, most patients can expect a significant reduction in swelling and bruising, and as a result, are able to discontinue the use of compression garments at this time. Most patients will begin to experience sensation in their nipples and areolas once again during this time frame which is a sign that they are nearing the end of their recovery. Dr. Buinewicz may allow patients to gradually increase their activities, but it’s important to avoid any activities that strain the chest muscles or put excessive stress on the incision sites.

      Months 2-3

Swelling should continue to decrease, and the breasts will gradually settle into their final position. The incision scars will begin to fade, although they may still be visible. By this stage, most individuals can typically resume their regular activities, including exercise and more demanding physical tasks, with Dr. Buinewicz’s guidance.

      Month 4 and Beyond

The final results of a breast lift surgery become visible during this time as the breasts continue to heal and the scars mature. The shape and position of the breasts should stabilize, and the scars will continue to fade over time.

      Post Surgery Frequently Asked Questions

      Is Breast Lift Recovery Painful?

While the breast lift procedure is not painful at all, patients should expect some pain during the breast lift recovery. It is during this period where the body is healing and feels the trauma of the surgical process. Fortunately, this pain should only last a few days, and can be managed with pain medications and other post-operative techniques.

Can I Breastfeed After Breast Lift Surgery?

The ability to breastfeed after breast lift surgery can vary depending on individual factors and the surgical techniques used. While some women are able to breastfeed successfully after a breast lift, there is a possibility that breastfeeding may be affected. The factors that contribute to this possibility include surgical technique, nipple and areola repositioning and various pre-existing factors.

If maintaining the ability to breastfeed is a primary concern, you should discuss this priority with Dr. Buinewicz prior to your surgery. In most cases, it’s recommended to delay your breast lift surgery until you believe you will no longer have any additional children.

When Will I Feel Back to Normal After a Breast Lift?

The time it takes to feel "back to normal" after a breast lift can vary from person to person. It typically takes several weeks to a few months for most individuals to start feeling more like themselves again. However, it's important to keep in mind that the recovery timeline can be influenced by factors such as the extent of the surgery, individual healing ability, and adherence to post-operative care instructions.

It is common to experience discomfort, swelling, and limited mobility during the initial recovery phase. These symptoms will gradually improve over the first month, when you’ll begin to notice an improvement in energy levels and overall well-being. You may be able to resume light activities and work during this time. Most significant improvements will take place 1-3 months after treatment. Patients can expect to feel fully back to normal within 3-4 months of surgery.

What Results Can I Expect From a Breast Lift?

Dr. Buinewicz will illustrate your potential results during your breast lift consultation. After discussing your treatment goals and identifying the appropriate surgical techniques, you and Dr. Buinewicz can explore potential outcomes through before and after photos of previous patients. However, it’s important to keep in mind that it can take 3-4 months for your final results to become visible. This is due to the extensive recovery process that follows a breast lift, which can include residual swelling for a few months. The results from your breast lift should last for 10 to 15 years.
