Hair Restoration in Bucks County, PA, and Hunterdon County, NJ

Hair loss can result in decreased self-esteem. Patients state that they feel older than their actual age despite exercise and skin care. Located in Doylestown, PA and Flemington, NJ, Buinewicz Plastic Surgery, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brian R. Buinewicz, offers hair restoration for men and women who live in Hunterdon County, NJ and Bucks County, PA.

What Is Causing My Hair to Fall Out?

Hair loss is not necessarily a side effect of aging or personal grooming habits. In fact, both men and women can begin to experience hair loss as early as in their 20s. For men, genetics is the leading cause of hair loss and for women, changes in hormone levels, such as those which occur during pregnancy, are the leading contributor. Hair may fall out as a side effect of certain medical conditions, illnesses, and/or taking certain medications as well.

What Are the Most Important Factors In Hair Restoration?

In order to be considered an ideal candidate for a successful hair rejuvenation procedure, you must have suitable, healthy donor hair on either the sides or back of your scalp. You must have hair in these required donor sites in order to make the procedure possible. Hair quality is also an important factor. Those patients with lighter hair color or coarse hair will be able to achieve a thicker, fuller appearance than patients with finer, darker hair.

The decision to undergo hair replacement surgery is a very personal one. The procedure not only revitalizes the appearance of thick, beautiful hair but does wonders for your self-confidence as well. Knowing and understanding the steps and expected outcome will help guide your ability to make an informed decision.

What to Expect from Hair Transplantation?

The most important factor for a successful hair transplant is having donor sites with hair that is thick enough to fill in your thinning or bald areas. Unlike popular misconception, you do not have to be bald or have bald spots to be considered for hair restoration treatment. In fact, it is recommended that you contemplate the procedure early on so that hair loss may be prevented. The procedure may be performed at any age, but hair transplantation tends to be more conventional for patients in their 20s and 30s, as the hair in the donor site may not be completely established.

During your one-on-one consultation, Dr. Buinewicz will describe the anticipated outcome of your hair transplant procedure. Consideration is given to your hair and skin color, in addition to hair texture, as these factors will affect the overall perception of fullness after the procedure. If you are selected as an ideal candidate for hair transplant surgery, Dr. Buinewicz will describe the recommended technique and details of the surgery, which include anesthesia, recovery time, any associated risks, and cost.

Hair Replacement Process

Each hair transplantation surgery is as individualized as the patient, but Dr. Buinewicz does follow some similar procedural steps for both men and women. The majority of patients are made comfortable with the administration of local anesthesia only. However, we can also provide an oral medication to keep you relaxed. The donor hair is harvested by removing a very thin strip of soft tissue with a large number of individual donor hairs from the sides or back of the scalp. The strip is then cut into smaller grafts, with each graft containing one to five hairs. Dr. Buinewicz makes tiny incisions in the thin or balding area, and a graft is inserted into the incision. Depending on the extent of hair replacement needed, the procedure can take three to eight hours.

Unlike early hair replacement techniques, today’s methods involve mimicking hair’s natural growth pattern with the positioning of the grafts. As a result, our patients enjoy years of revitalized hair density. Most people can’t tell that the patient ever had a problem with thinning hair!

Hair Replacement Consultation and Costs

Certain medical conditions may prevent you from being considered as a candidate for hair replacement surgery. Dr. Buinewicz will examine your scalp and review your personal medical history during your one-on-one consultation at our office. If you are chosen as an ideal candidate, Dr. Buinewicz will discuss how many grafts are recommended, explain the surgical procedure and all it entails, and answer any questions or concerns. Our friendly, knowledgeable, patient coordinator will discuss all associated costs of your hair replacement surgery, including available flexible financing and payment options.

HAIR RESTORATION – Level 1

Early stage hair loss and thinning hair can occur in both men and women at all ages. Hair thinning and loss can be caused by heredity, thyroid disorders, and other medical conditions.

Early intervention with oral supplements and topical agents, including specially compounded shampoos and conditioners, help to retain hair and promote growth. These products enhance the health of the hair follicles.

Use of topical and oral supplements can be used indefinitely to maintain the hair that has been restored.

Dr. Buinewicz will determine at your consultation what level of treatment is needed to retain and enhance hair growth. Dr. Buinewicz provides a personal 30-minute consultation with each of his patients to assure the correct treatment and procedure.

HAIR RESTORATION – Level 2

There are many treatments that will effectively treat patients that are affected with mild to moderate thinning of the hair and hair loss. Hair loss and thinning can occur from heredity and medical conditions.

To retain and stimulate regrowth of the hair on the scalp we may suggest the following:

  • Oral supplementation
  • Topical shampoo and conditioner
  • Red and infrared light treatments, NeoLTS

The retention, texture, and regrowth of hair occurs within a few weeks.

HAIR RESTORATION – Level 3

HAIR RESTORATION – Level 4

There are many treatments that will effectively treat patients that are affected with mild to moderate thinning of the hair and hair loss. Hair loss and thinning can occur due to heredity and medical conditions.

To retain and stimulate regrowth of the hair of the scalp we may suggest the following:

  • Oral supplementation
  • Topical shampoo and conditioner
  • Red and infrared light treatments, NeoLTS
  • PRP

NeoLTS Light Therapy

NeoLTS light therapy utilizes high-end Light Emitting Diodes to stimulate skin and scalp hair. It is otherwise referred to as photostimulation. Intense narrow band red and infrared light penetrates below the skin promoting the healing process, in addition to the stimulation of collagen and elastin fibers. Key to hair restoration, the infrared light source assists in the increase of vascularity (blood flow) to the existing hair follicles and implanted hair follicles, increases lymphatic drainage, therefore reducing the presence of bacteria to the area. The end result is an improved environment for both existing and implanted hair follicles to grow and be retained.

Hair Restoration Treatments

PRP For Hair

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) naturally contains growth factors that can help repair injured tissue at the injection site. They can also help stimulate the production of collagen, the protein that gives skin tissue its firmness, and platelets can also stimulate the hair follicles to promote healthy growth. PRP therapy is frequently used for hair restoration purposes, as well as for facial skin rejuvenation and facial volume enhancement.

PRP therapy can be used in conjunction with hair transplant surgery or microneedling, or along with topical hair growth treatments, such as Viviscal®, Propecia®, or Minoxidil, or by itself. Dr. Buinewicz will first draw a small amount blood from your arm and separate out the plasma in a centrifuge. The platelet concentrate is then injected into the scalp, and the hair is washed.

Since no sedation is necessary for the treatment, the patient can return to normal activity directly after the procedure. For best results, we recommend three initial sessions spaced out once per month and then follow-up treatments once every 12 to 15 months.

NeoGraft®

NeoGraft® can precisely extract complete individual hair follicles using pneumatic controls. Immediately after this is done, the hair follicles are transplanted to the selected areas of the scalp. You will see the desired results as this procedure absolutely delivers exact harvesting and placement. With the revolutionary technology of NeoGraft®, each follicle is removed one by one without compromising the comfort level of the patient. After this successful procedure, you will end up with a natural looking head of hair with your own hair which can be groomed the way you want! Read about Neograft® on our Neograft® page!
